God Bless Our Veterans!

Happy Memorial Day, you guys! I hope you've had a fantastic weekend! Mine's been pretty good, albeit a little busy. :-)

But I'd like to take some time to really think about what Memorial Day is, and what it means, and what it should mean. It's not all about hitting the lake, cooking out, or grabbing a cold one. Although all of those things can be super fun, of course!

What it is about, and what it should be about, is honoring those wonderful, brave men and women who fight for our country and keep us free. It's about being thankful for the men and women who have lost their lives for our freedom, our country, for us! Veterans who have served, are serving, or will serve. They definitely deserve our respect, honor, and gratitude.

I'm proud to say that my late Grandpa was a Veteran. I wish I could tell him thank you today, and I really miss him.

Thank you to ALL of you Veterans out there. I'm so grateful for every single man or woman who serves this wonderful country of ours. God bless you all, and thank you for what you do, not just on Memorial Day, but every day!

God Bless America—God Bless our Troops!

Lovely post - and the sight of a row of flags in the sunshine is cheerful and uplifting too.

My dad is still in the military. I am so happy there are people like him fighting for me and other people's freedom. =)

I wish people were more like you! So many people do not understand the meaning of the "holiday" and in Jersey memorial day (weekend) is known as MDW and everyone goes down the shore to celebrate the start of summer by drinking. I actually had one person wish me a "great holiday." I so wanted to turn around and say how can you have a great holiday when the holiday is about remembering those who gave their lives during during war, but I decided to just walk away since it was in a public place haha.
(Both of my deceased grandfathers plus my "sudo-grandfather" all served in the military, and my boyfriend is a 2nd LT in the army national guard- deploying in 2012)

I agree. Not many people still respect the meaning of Memorial Day. I guess we've just let ourselves forget what it means, and I think others forget what it means to the people that have something to remember that day. My dad is in the military, has been for 18 years, he has retired from active duty but remained in the reserves. It's important to people with family members in the military that people respect this day because not enough people give our troops the support they need, and Memorial Day is a big part of that. . . 'All gave some, but some gave all.'

@Loryn—Thanks, that’s a really nice compliment! And yes, I think people too easily get distracted with celebrating a holiday than really thinking what we should be celebrating, and who we should be thanking. God bless your grandparents—and your boyfriend, too!—for serving and protecting us!

@Elizabeth—I think sometimes it’s easier to just enjoy a holiday as a day off, or an excuse to celebrate. Thank your father for me; it takes great men and women to serve! Our troops will always have my support, and I think it’s the least I can give them. They deserve so much more.
