And yes, I think people too easily get distracted with celebrating a holiday than really thinking what we should be celebrating, and who we should be thanking. God bless your grandparents—and your boyfriend, too!—for serving and protecting us!

@Elizabeth—I think sometimes it’s easier to just enjoy a holiday as a day off, or an excuse to celebrate. Thank your father for me; it takes great men and women to serve! Our troops will always have my support, and I think it’s the least I can give them. They deserve so much more.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08671692384624598065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2372797675293003712.post-36765163985412389082010-06-20T13:03:07.716-05:002010-06-20T13:03:07.716-05:00I agree. I guess we've just let ourselves forget what it means, and I think others forget what it means to the people that have something to remember that day. My dad is in the military, has been for 18 years, he has retired from active duty but remained in the reserves. It's important to people with family members in the military that people respect this day because not enough people give our troops the support they need, and Memorial Day is a big part of that. . . 'All gave some, but some gave all.'

http://www.dreamingtowriteelizabethbrown.blogspot.com/Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08480793312281807528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2372797675293003712.post-40587029193178051762010-06-15T18:04:38.394-05:002010-06-15T18:04:38.394-05:00I wish people were more like you! So many people do not understand the meaning of the "holiday" and in Jersey memorial day (weekend) is known as MDW and everyone goes down the shore to celebrate the start of summer by drinking. I actually had one person wish me a "great holiday." I so wanted to turn around and say how can you have a great holiday when the holiday is about remembering those who gave their lives during during war, but I decided to just walk away since it was in a public place haha.
(Both of my deceased grandfathers plus my "sudo-grandfather" all served in the military, and my boyfriend is a 2nd LT in the army national guard- deploying in 2012)Lorynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09035105142846189541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2372797675293003712.post-60949209229048142172010-06-07T20:11:32.800-05:002010-06-07T20:11:32.800-05:00@Bwdlake— Thanks so much!
